Let's talk about Benny Hill
|
Was Benny Hill shit?
The Chinese tourist / Indian immigration officer sketch was good, I found everything else he did embarrassing and shite.

Your right Len, it was shit but in a strange way it was good shit, predictable, stupid but for some strange reason, very watchable.
Always liked Benny Hill, even now watching clips on youtube always brings a smile and a laugh, but im fucked as to why?

I accidentally watched a few clips this morning. I still find it as cringeworthy as when I was a kid.
Also, how come nobody ever claimed he was a nonce? If you were running a book on it he'd be one of the post-Savile favourites.
Not that I'm suggesting he was...

I'm fairly sure most of us only watched it as impressionable young men for one reason, and it wasn't Benny's humour.
He was good in the Italian Job though.

Benny Hill was not remotely funny.
Unfortunately there is a market for his brand of lowest common denominator toilet humour that persist even to this day.
Those two monumental prats Walliams and Lucas have made lucrative careers emulating Benny Hill which just shows you how ignorant and stupid the British public is.

Just watch this clip and it tells you all you need to know. He even does the "mistaking the iron for a phone" gag. I'm not surprised the French like him.

You realise that it wasn't an 'old' gag 40 years ago, don't you?

Honestly never seen a Benny Hill sketch in my life.
Seen the "benny hill music" used as a parody in loads of other things tho.

While I agree with some of that, have you ever watched Italian, Spanish or French TV? Every country broadcasts lowest common denominator humour. That's a fact. There are though, thankfully, plenty of slightly more sophisticated comedies made in the UK if you choose to look for them, and you donlt have to look that hard. So, while Benny Himm, Little Britain, Mrs Brown and the like are undoubtedly shit, using those as a stick to beat the "British public" with is highly ignorant in itself.
